Follow - Behavior Property
Choosing “Follow” as the behavior property in the scene editor enables you to make the object follow another object. The sample project for this contains a steam locomotive and a tender, and we’re going to show you how to make the tender follow the locomotive.
First of all, switch the active track to the tender so that you can edit its scenes. When you make an object follow another, you must select “F” for “Follow” in the “Behavior” column and set the target to follow in the “Tracking” column. Here we’d like the tender to follow the locomotive, select “Locomotive” as the target.
Note that the follower keeps the distance between the leader at the scene which you change the behavior to “Follow” even if you change the target to follow after that.
The following movie shows how the tender follows the locomotive with this option.
At first, the follower changes its orientation until it starts following the leader on the path but after that it keeps the same orientation as the leader. This ”Follow” option is useful when you’d like to have trains or trailers in your animation. Then how can we make the locomotive and tender look like a train?
You can do that if you choose “Rail” for the leader and “Follow” for the follower. In this case, the “Rail” option is also applied to the follower implicitly. (Click here to see the tutorial for the “Rail” option.)
Here is the movie with those options. It should be noted that the initial position of the tender is also changed here so that it looks as if connected to the locomotive.
